'The Letter of Jude' in the new testament is linked to St Jude. In scripture St Jude is called ‘Thaddaeus’ (Math 10:3, Mark 3:18) to distinguish this faithful Apostle from the traitor Judas Iscariot. St Jude was selected by Jesus to be among the twelve men whom he commissioned to go out to all the world and spread the good news. After James was martyred, St Jude's younger brother Simeon succeeded to be the next Bishop. St Paul refers to James as one of the 'Pillars of the Church' along with Peter and John (Gal 2:9). James is the author of 'The Letter of St James’ in the New Testament. St Jude's brother, James was the first Bishop of Jerusalem. Two of St Jude’s brothers, James and Simeon were great leaders of the early church and martyred for their faith. When we say the prayer to St Jude, isn't it wonderful to know that this Holy Saint is related to Jesus from both sides of his parents?īut it doesn't stop there. She is the same Mary who stood at the foot of the cross of Our Lord who is referred to as 'Mary the wife of Cleophas' (John 19:25). St Jude's mother, Mary is the cousin of our Blessed Mother.
